Summary

Super Raiden is the CD‑ROM² upgrade of the classic arcade shooter that originally appeared on TurboGrafx‑16 HuCards. It retains the frantic pace of the original while letting the CD format shine with a fully Redbook‑audio soundtrack that makes every boss fight sound as epic as it feels.

Beyond the music, the disc adds a handful of exclusive stages that aren’t found on cartridge or disk versions, giving experienced pilots fresh layouts and extra chances to master the game’s steep difficulty curve. The graphics are crisp for the era, and the sound effects complement the richer score without compromising performance.

Power‑up pods are still colour‑coded, rewarding you with a rotating arsenal of lasers, missiles and spread shots, and the bullet‑hell patterns demand precise dodging. Those hair‑raising moments when the screen fills with enemy fire are exactly why Super Raiden remains a beloved entry in the shoot‑'em‑up pantheon.

Storyline

Super Raiden is set in the year 2090, when an alien species known as the Crystals launches a full‑scale invasion of Earth. The Crystals seize control of the majority of the planet’s military hardware, turning humanity’s own weapons against it. In response, a global coalition called Vanquish Crystal Defense (VCD) engineers the Fighting Thunder attack craft, a cutting‑edge fighter built from captured Crystal technology. The Fighting Thunder becomes the sole weapon capable of piercing the alien defenses. VCD deploys this lone craft as humanity’s last hope, tasking the pilot with striking back against the invaders and reclaiming Earth.
