Summary

Super Darius 2 on the TurboGrafx‑CD takes the classic Darius II arcade shooter and reshapes it for the home console. The game swaps out the original roster of bosses for an entirely new set, and each stage has been re‑designed, giving the familiar fish‑themed world a fresh layout. Musically, the CD‑ROM format lets the soundtrack be fully arranged with brand‑new tracks that sit alongside the iconic Darius themes.

Power‑up strategy also gets a makeover. The classic red, green, and blue pickups still boost missiles, bombs and the shield, but two additions change the flow: a yellow item equips a laser main weapon that behaves like a bomb, while a rainbow pickup upgrades every weapon slot at once. Unlike the arcade, you now have to destroy a specific enemy formation to earn a power‑up, and each upgrade follows its own path. Adding to the challenge are the "captains"—mini‑bosses that are smaller versions of the original Darius foes, appearing before the main boss and testing your reflexes before the big showdown.

Storyline

Super Darius 2 picks up the story a few years after the original Darius. The colonized world of Darius is still healing from the Belser Army’s invasion, thanks to the original heroes Proco and Tiat. Most of the population has relocated to the nearby planet Olga while the damaged cities and infrastructure on Darius are being rebuilt. From a space‑flight headquarters on Olga, a distress signal is intercepted from Earth – the homeworld of the first colonists. The message describes alien vessels that closely resemble the Belser ships, leading the Darius people to suspect that their long‑lost Earth ancestors are in trouble. In response, the new generation pilots Proco Jr. and Tiat Young are dispatched to investigate and aid the stranded humans. The game’s action unfolds in the inner half of the solar system and retains the branching level layout that made the original Darius a classic, giving players multiple paths through the alien‑infested sectors.
