Summary
Steam Heart's is a niche, vertically scrolling shoot‑'em‑up that sneaks its adult vibe into the classic shooter formula. Set on a distant alien world ruled by seven cat‑girl princesses infected by a virus, the only hope comes from brothers Blow and Fallandia, whose ship must breach each ruler’s fortress and deliver an… unconventional antidote. Gameplay feels straight‑forward: a primary vulcan‑cannon or laser that you upgrade by grabbing power‑ups, plus a slot for quirky secondary weapons like turrets, flamethrowers or hunting satellites. The title offers both single‑player and a surprisingly chaotic two‑player co‑op, where only the co‑op mode provides continues. Between eight vertically scrolling stages, static‑image cutscenes tease the risqué storyline while staying tamer on consoles than the original PC‑98 version. The 1996 PC Engine Super CD‑ROM² port refreshed all graphics, softened the erotic scenes and dropped two‑player support, marking it as the system’s final shooter. Despite its average shooting mechanics, Steam‑Heart’s legacy endures as an oddball hybrid of arcade action and adult anime aesthetic.
Storyline
Steam-Heart's on the TurboGrafx‑CD drops you into a world plagued by a mysterious virus that has turned most of the population into mind‑controlled husks. The only people who remain unaffected are the siblings Blow, a young man, and Falla, a hermaphroditic sibling, who set out together to eradicate the infection.
Each stage ends with a showdown against a giant mecha piloted by a scantily clad woman—often a cat‑girl or other exotic figure. After defeating the machine, Blow performs a bizarre ritual: he ejaculates onto the pilot, which the game claims cures her of the virus and restores her humanity. Dialogue between Blow, Falla, and the rescued pilots advances the story toward a final confrontation.
