Summary

Götzendiener, the TurboGrafx‑CD title from the minds behind Princess Maker, flips the classic “rescue the princess” trope on its head. You control a sword‑wielding princess who must rely on her own skill to navigate an isometric dungeon, battling foes in real‑time while the game’s auto‑jump mechanic keeps the pace brisk. Combat is stripped down to simple sword attacks, but the real challenge comes from pushing and pulling objects to solve environmental puzzles and clear a path forward. The design feels like a hybrid of action‑adventure and brain‑teaser, rewarding quick reflexes and clever thinking in equal measure. It’s a quirky, self‑sufficient heroine’s quest that feels fresh even decades after its release.

Storyline

In Götzendiener, the Demon God kidnaps Princess Misa, planning to sacrifice her to regain his lost power. The king's army, led by a knight wielding the legendary Sword of the Valiant, is wiped out, leaving only the wounded knight alive.

As he lands the killing blow on the Demon God, he is mortally wounded. With no hero left, Princess Misa must take up the Sword of the Valiant herself. She must navigate the demon's trap‑filled dungeon, battling deadly enemies. Only by escaping can she hope to end the darkness.
