Summary

Fighting Street transforms Capcom’s 1987 arcade fighter for the TurboGrafx‑CD with a few clever compromises. Because the console never got a six‑button pad, attack strength is now decided by how long you hold either punch or kick button, a method reminiscent of the arcade’s pneumatic pads. The game also sports an arranged CD‑quality soundtrack that adds a richer vibe than the original synth tunes.

The box art is a playful nod to American icons, featuring a stylized Mount Rushmore that actually appears as a stage inside the match. After its modest North American launch, the title resurfaced on the Wii Virtual Console in 2009, bringing the classic fights to a new generation. Gameplay stays faithful: three‑minute rounds, joystick moves, and the same classic inputs for Hadōken, Shoryūken and Tatsumaki Senpū Kyaku, while a roster of ten fighters from five nations ends with two bosses in Thailand.

Storyline

Fighting Street – the TurboGrafx‑CD version of the classic fighting game – puts you in the shoes of Ryu, a young Japanese martial artist who enters an international Street Fighter tournament to prove his strength. His former training partner and rival, Ken, also joins the competition, eager to test himself against Ryu and the world’s best.

The roster spans the globe: Japan’s expelled Shorinji Kempo instructor Retsu and the mysterious ninja Geki; the United States’ underground karate champion Joe and ex‑heavyweight boxer Mike; China’s boxing specialist Lee and veteran assassin Gen; Great Britain’s bouncer Birdie and his bodyguard Eagle; and Thailand’s Muay Thai master Adon, who bows to his mentor Sagat – the “Emperor of Muay Thai” and the tournament’s final opponent.
