Summary
Dungeon Master: Theron's Quest—often just called Theron's Quest—is a stripped‑down, TurboGrafx‑CD reimagining of the classic PC dungeon crawler. Instead of one massive labyrinth, the game offers seven bite‑size dungeons that echo locations from the original and its sequel Chaos Strikes Back. You lead Theron plus three companions, but each time you finish a dungeon the entire party loses its loot and the heroes’ skills and stats, forcing a fresh start for the next level. The loss of an in‑level save is offset by the numerous “Altars of VI,” which resurrect fallen allies on the spot. Fewer monster varieties and streamlined item lists make the adventure more approachable than its predecessor. The CD‑quality soundtrack drew particular praise, and Electronic Gaming Monthly gave the title a 6.5‑out of‑10 rating despite noting the aging engine.
Storyline
In Dungeon Master: Theron's Quest, the hero Theron is on a single‑purpose mission to reassemble a legendary blue knight’s armor. The armor is split into seven distinct pieces: the Shield Defiant, Taza Poleyn, Tazahelm, Taza Boots, Taza Armor, the Soulcage, and the sword called The Retaliator. Each fragment is hidden inside its own mini‑dungeon, making every area a self‑contained puzzle. The player must explore, defeat enemies, and solve riddles to claim each component.
Only after gathering all seven parts can Theron complete the armor and unlock the game’s true ending.
