Summary
Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes drops you into the sprawling continent of Isrenasa, where Prince Logan must reclaim his throne. The map stretches from mist‑shrouded valleys to sun‑bleached deserts, each area teeming with hidden paths and optional encounters. Along the way, a rotating cast of companions joins the party, each bringing distinct abilities that open up new shortcuts and puzzle solutions.
For a TurboDuo title, the game pushes the hardware with an interface that feels more like a PC‑era RPG than a 16‑bit console, offering layered menus, auto‑mapping, and a journal that tracks the mammoth quest’s many threads. Electronic Games highlighted this leap in the 1993 awards, noting how the multimedia polish echoes the same team’s work on Ys I & II. The result is a meticulously detailed adventure that still feels fresh despite its 1989 roots.
It’s the sixth entry in Falcom’s Dragon Slayer line but the inaugural chapter of the Legend of Heroes saga, marking the series’ first appearance on the TurboGrafx‑CD in the United States. That release remained the sole US‑available title until the PSP remake of A Tear of Vermillion arrived years later.
