Summary
The TurboGrafx‑CD version of Double Dragon II – often called Double Dragon II PCE by fans – pulls a lot of its DNA from the NES port, so you’ll notice the same two‑enemy‑on‑screen limit and many familiar stage layouts. It does reshuffle enemies and pads out the levels with extra thugs, and while the ridiculous bulldozer battle from the arcade disappears, the brothers still have to square off against Willy and their own shadows much like the original arcade run. On any difficulty you can meet the Shadow Master (sans cape), but only a Hard victory unlocks the full good ending with Marion revived. The arcade’s directional‑attack system survived – press the left or right attack button to throw a punch combo or a back kick – and it adds the Hurricane Kick, plus a grab‑bag of throw‑ables (shovels, chains, grenades, logs). The cast of foes is a colorful remix of old faces and new characters like Linda the whip‑wielding girl and the steel‑masked Burnov, keeping the beat‑em‑up flavor fresh for retro fans.
Storyline
In the arcade version of Double Dragon II: The Revenge, the story kicks off with a grim twist: Marian, the heroine rescued in the original game, is shot dead by the leader of the Black Warriors. The loss propels brothers Billy and Jimmy Lee into a quest for vengeance. Their mission is clear—track down the Black Warriors and confront their commander, Willy, the man responsible for Marian’s death. The brothers fight through waves of enemies, driven by the need to avenge their fallen ally.
