Summary

Beyond Shadowgate resurrects a long‑forgotten point‑and‑click adventure, finally seeing the light after three decades in the vault. The same designers who crafted the beloved 8‑bit Shadowgate teamed up with a veteran 8‑bit adventure studio to deliver a game that feels instantly familiar yet vastly expanded – the world is more than five times the size of the original. With memory and palette restrictions gone, the new title boasts vibrant graphics, longer playtime, and a blend of retro puzzles and modern mechanics. It’s fully playable with an XInput controller, mouse or keyboard, and includes quality‑of‑life extras like a hint system, quick‑travel map, day/night cycles and a clear death indicator. Bonus side‑quests pull from Déjà vu, The Uninvited and even the Shadowgate VR "Mines of Mythrok" to keep fans hooked beyond the main quest.

Storyline

Beyond Shadowgate picks up 35 years after Jair's victory over the Warlock Lord. The kingdom of Kal Torlin has flourished, and the old Shadowgate saga is all but forgotten, until darkness stirs in the dungeons beneath Gwynenthell, the capital.
Players follow Del Thornburrow, a low-born Fenling accustomed to jail, who breaks free and embarks on a trek across Gwynenthell, the Torlin Forest and the Gatekeeper Mountains. Along the way he uncovers conspiracies to topple kingdoms, meets old allies and new faces, and must dodge traps, monsters and the ever-present Grim Reaper. The adventure blends classic point-and-click puzzles with a fresh, peril-filled journey through familiar Shadowgate lore.
