Summary

Stratego brings the classic board‑game experience to the screen, letting you hunt the opponent’s flag while keeping an eye out for that sneaky spy. The game faithfully follows Jumbo’s original rules, but adds a nice visual twist: three alternate board designs and a fourth set of pieces let you change the look without having to create your own graphics.

You’ll face a single AI opponent across five skill levels, from sergeant up to field marshal, and the menu offers a handful of optional rule tweaks—aggressor advantage, silent defense, and even a rescue mechanic that lets captured units return to the fray. A demo mode walks newcomers through the basics, and a campaign strings together consecutive maps for a longer challenge.

Critics praised the depth of the solitaire play, with the Los Angeles Times giving it four out of five stars and Computer Gaming World calling it “an extremely challenging solitaire game of remarkable diversity and subtlety.” Even without flashy animations, reviewers agreed that Stratego stands out as a solid electronic board‑game adaptation.
