Summary

Ninja Spirit on the TurboGrafx‑16 feels like a love‑letter to classic arcade ninja action, but with a twist that only the console version can offer. The game lets you pick between the original Arcade Mode—where a single hit can end your run—and a PC‑Engine mode that gives you a five‑point life gauge, making the experience a bit more forgiving while still demanding precision. You wield the katana Muramasa for fluid, eight‑direction slashes, and can swap to shuriken (Uzha), bombs (Raitake) or the chain‑sickle (Shoryusai) whenever the enemy patterns call for it, while power‑ups can even summon ghostly ninjas to fight alongside you. Each of the seven stages throws a different backdrop—forests, wastelands, swamps, temples, cliffs—so you’re constantly adapting your weapon strategy to survive the relentless onslaught. The title has resurfaced on modern platforms, from the Wii Virtual Console to the Arcade Archives releases on Switch and PS4, keeping its brutal charm alive for new generations.

Storyline

Saigo no Nindou – Ninja Spirit (commonly called Ninja Spirit) follows Tsukikage, a young ninja known as Moonlight. In an alternate feudal Japan, his father was slain by a mysterious half‑man, half‑beast creature. Driven by vengeance, Tsukikage sets out on a perilous journey across the land. Along the way he battles hostile samurai, yokai and other foes, gradually uncovering clues about his own mysterious birth. The ultimate goal is not only to defeat the monster that killed his father but also to unlock the hidden secrets of his lineage, bringing closure to his family's tragic past.
