Summary

Psychosis packs you into a psychedelic side‑scroll shooter where each of the five "causes" feels like a twisted mental maze. The ship’s three shot types—wide‑coverage beam, laser‑satellite barrage and a third, unlockable option—can each be powered up three steps, and the indestructible satellites can be rotated to any side, letting you block enemy fire or unleash extra lasers. Power‑ups appear as colored orbs with letters and change the satellites’ behavior, from shooting to creating an electric shield. Visually, the game stands out with hyper‑bright graphics that earned rave notices back in the day, and the quirky regional quirks—like an imp’s profanity‑laden screen in Japan versus a finger‑wave in the US—add a layer of novelty. The bonus ship every 50,000 points and tight boss fights make the experience feel both nostalgic and oddly fresh.

Storyline

In Psychosis for the TurboGrafx‑16, the protagonist discovers that an evil entity known as "The Devil Ugar" has seized control of their mind. The malevolent force intends to subsume the player's consciousness entirely, but the hero refuses to surrender. Using the power of their own thoughts, they construct a strange vehicle capable of navigating both the conscious and subconscious realms. This mind‑crafted craft becomes the key to battling the intruder and reclaiming sanity. The journey is a surreal fight to break free from Ugar’s grip and restore mental autonomy.
