Necros no Yōsai started life as a quirky promotional candy toy from Japan’s Lotte Group, and somehow that sweet gimmick turned into a full‑blown JRPG on the TurboGrafx‑16. The game leans heavily into anime‑style fantasy, with colorful character designs that feel ripped from a manga panel. Its turn‑based battles are straightforward but get a boost from licensed opening and ending themes that sound like they belong on a TV series. Even though the premise is rooted in a candy marketing stunt, the experience feels surprisingly polished for a console title of its era.
Necros no Yousai takes place in the fictional kingdom of Tankirie, a realm threatened by the dark ambitions of the demon King Necros. The malevolent ruler plots to seize control of the world, casting a shadow over the land. In response, eight brave warriors from across the kingdom band together, each bringing their own skills to the fight. United by a common purpose, they set out to confront and defeat Necros before his conquest can be completed. Their quest forms the core narrative of the game.
