Summary
Somer Assault (known as Mesopotamia in Japan) lets you control a bright pink, slinky‑like creature that can cling to floors, walls and ceilings, then spring off with a short jump to reach new sections of each stage. The Slinky whirls and somersaults across the side‑scrolling levels while blasting enemies with a dual‑sided machine gun that fires from its middle.
The game hands you a modest pool of hit points that you can boost with scattered power‑ups, a handful of lives, and the comfort of unlimited continues. Each level is timed, pushing you to locate and defeat the boss before the clock runs out. A quirky touch lets you type in your birth date at the start; depending on the date, a boss will toss power‑ups instead of harmful shots, turning a birthday into a bonus round.
Storyline
In the export version of Mesopotamia, the tale opens with a brief prologue that sets a mythic tone: “In a time and world not of our own.” An evil Sorceress harnesses dark magic to summon twelve powerful minions, each embodying one of the Zodiac signs, and dispatches them to seize the world. The player controls the Slinky, who must fight through twelve distinct stages, confronting and defeating each Zodiac boss in turn. The final stage forces the Slinky to battle all twelve bosses back‑to‑back before finally confronting the Sorceress herself. After the Sorceress falls, her body erupts in an explosion, triggering a showdown with three Slinky‑like foes called the Mimickers, and ultimately the appearance of the true end‑game adversary, the Creator.
