Summary
The TurboGrafx‑16 entry known in the West simply as Shockman arrived stateside in 1992, making it the sole early‑release title of the Cyber Citizen Shockman series outside Japan. Developed by Winds, this sequel drops the sword‑centric combat of the original and swaps it for a forward‑firing energy blast reminiscent of Mega Man’s buster, while also reshaping platforming with tighter jump control. The sprawling world map, upgrade stations and hostage rescue segments were trimmed away, replaced by two side‑scrolling shooter stages that push the pace even further. Critics gave it mixed but respectable marks – Eurogamer 6/10, Génération 4 70 % and Nintendo Life 6/10 among the more notable scores – indicating a niche appeal for those who enjoy fast, arcade‑styled action on retro hardware.
Storyline
Kaizou Choujin Schbibinman (often just called Schbibinman) picks up roughly two years after the events of Cyber Citizen Shockman. Arnold has left school and now works as a cook at a local restaurant, while Sonya continues her studies. After the Dark Skull’s defeat, Doc has been warning them of a looming invasion, but nothing concrete surfaces—until Doc is kidnapped. The duo discovers an alien empire led by Ryo plotting world domination, and they also face two new dark Shockmen, Jeeta and Mue, who wield powers similar to Arnold and Sonya. Their mission becomes a race to rescue Doc, stop Ryo’s takeover, and survive the assaults from Jeeta and Mue.
