Summary

Image Fight (often written as ImageFight) is a fast‑paced vertical scrolling shooter that first appeared in arcades before finding its way onto the TurboGrafx‑16 in Japan. You pilot a sleek red fighter called the OF‑1, which can latch onto up to three coloured Pods – red or blue spheres that either fire forward or backward and can even be tossed at foes for extra damage. Speed isn’t fixed; a four‑step throttle lets you shift the ship’s wing shape and a blue‑flame thruster that can scorch nearby enemies. Front‑mounted “Force” devices – ranging from bubble lasers to a drill laser – replace the standard blaster with a powerful beam and act as a fragile shield, but only one can be equipped at a time. The game opens with five simulation stages that act like a high‑stakes training ground, demanding a 90 % kill ratio before you unlock the three true combat zones set in open space. Collecting capsules upgrades your arsenal, while the ability to adjust speed on the fly adds a tactical layer to the relentless onslaught.

Storyline

On a fateful day in 20XX, Earth's moon shattered into four massive fragments and a shower of meteors. The explosion wiped out the West's moon base and left the moon's main computer still functional, now tangled in strange vegetation. Alien forces from the Boondoggle Galaxy seized the chaos, sending scores of unidentified fighters to Earth. Mankind's military‑industrial space complexes began falling one after another. Scientists worldwide responded by building the OF‑1 fighter‑ship.

In Image Fight, players pilot the OF‑1, an orbit fighter codenamed Daidalos. Their mission is to strike the moon’s defense system, which has gone rogue after the catastrophe. The ship must cut through the alien swarm and the out‑of‑control defenses to protect Earth. The storyline frames each sortie as a chance for combat pilots to earn everlasting glory.
