Summary

Columns drops three‑symbol stacks into a narrow well, letting you slide them side‑to‑side and rotate the order while they fall. When three or more matching jewels line up horizontally, vertically or diagonally they vanish, and the remaining pieces tumble down, often triggering chain reactions that feel oddly satisfying. Occasionally a flashing Magic Jewel column appears; it wipes out every jewel of the color beneath it, clearing space in a single, dramatic sweep. Beyond the classic endless mode, some ports add "Flash Columns" – a race to dig through a set number of lines – a cooperative "Doubles" mode where two players share the same well, and a timed challenge that pushes you for high scores before the clock runs out. The game’s simple yet addictive formula spread from arcades to the Genesis, Game Gear and even modern retro compilations, cementing Columns as a timeless puzzle staple.
