Summary

Chōzetsurin Jin Bravoman on the TurboGrafx‑16 feels like a quirky tribute to 1960s tokusatsu, complete with over‑the‑top hero poses and neon‑bright enemies. The game swaps the arcade’s pressure‑sensitive buttons for a simple press‑and‑hold mechanic, so the longer you hold the attack button the higher Bravoman jumps or the farther his punch reaches. Each of the 22 village stages alternates between side‑scroll beat‑em‑up action and underwater shooter segments where the bionic hero turns into a missile‑firing sub. Defeated foes drop ā€œFukuā€ symbols; hand them to the Lottery Man and you might receive a health‑boosting rice ball, a star that triggers an atomic blast, temporary invincibility, or even a bullet‑train that zips you to the level’s end. The graphics stay true to the original’s anime‑inspired style, and the quirky humor shines through in boss fights against clones, ninja cyborgs and a mechanical king of Atlantis. The TurboGrafx‑16 version also added new enemy types and reshaped stages, giving longtime fans fresh challenges while preserving the game’s off‑beat charm.

Storyline

The TurboGrafx‑16 title Chouzetsu Rinjin – Bravoman (commonly just Bravoman) opens with an attract‑mode vignette that sets up the plot. Japanese salaryman Hitoshi Nakamura is walking home when he meets a strange humanoid alien called Alpha Man, who claims to hail from the planet Alpha. Alpha Man warns him of the mad scientist Dr. Bomb, who intends to enslave humanity with an army of robots and a deadly super‑weapon, and hands Nakamura a metal rod, a tuning fork and a Ā„100 coin. These items transform him into Bravoman, a bionic tokusatsu hero with telescopic limbs.

According to the game’s promotional material, Dr. Bomb’s forces have already overrun the village of Nitta. Bravoman, empowered by Alpha Man, sets out to defeat Dr. Bomb’s robotic army, stop the super‑weapon and restore peace to Nitta and the world.
