Summary
Bravoman lands on the TurboGrafx‑16 with a quirky twist that sets it apart from the original arcade hit. Without the pressure‑sensitive buttons that defined the arcade’s variable‑strength attacks, the console version redesigns Bravoman’s punches and kicks while still keeping his signature telescopic limbs. The 22‑stage run mixes surface action with underwater shooting sections, and the jump height now hinges on how long you hold the button, adding a layer of timing nuance. Collectible Luck Symbols dropped by foes can be handed to Lottery Man for healing and power‑ups, a mechanic that adds a light‑hearted lottery vibe to the otherwise frantic beat‑‘em‑up. Critics praised the port’s faithful art—courtesy of former Toei animators—and its new level layouts, even if the steep difficulty kept some players from staying awhile.
Storyline
Hitoshi Nakamura, a tired salesman for Mekama Fire & Marine Insurance, is approached on his way home by the alien Alpha Man (sometimes called an Alpha planetoid). The stranger hands him a metal rod, a tuning fork, a ¥100 coin and the mysterious Silver Power along with the transformation substance Hera&Bo, granting Hitoshi the ability to become the bionic hero Bravoman (also referred to as Bravo‑Man). Alpha Man warns him that the mad scientist Dr. Bomb is planning to unleash a robot army and a deadly superweapon to enslave humanity. The first sign of Dr. Bomb’s scheme appears when his mechanized forces storm Nitta Fourth Street, claiming it as a foothold for world domination. Bravoman confronts the invading robots, battling through the street to stop Dr. Bomb’s plan and save the Earth.
