Summary
Bonk's Revenge (known as PC Kid 2 in Europe) thrusts the oversized‑headed caveman into a sky‑high quest to recover the half‑moon King Drool III swiped. The mission frames a quirky 2D platformer where you dash through seven varied environments — from sunny beaches and snowy cliffs to trains, underwater depths and even outer space — plus eight hidden bonus stages that reward extra lives.
I’m always amused by the way the game turns Bonk’s massive cranium into both weapon and tool: a simple head‑butt smashes enemies, a charged ground‑slam creates a damaging shockwave, and a mid‑air spin lets you hover for longer jumps. Climbing is equally whimsical, with Bonk latching onto surfaces using his teeth‑like mouth.
Meat power‑ups drive the action; a small slab turns him into Zombie Bonk, freezing foes with icy blasts, while a large slab (or two small ones) triggers the fiery, invincible Butthead Bonk form. Collectible tulips launch you into a Mechabonk showdown, and smiley‑shaped coins fill a Mario‑like bonus round.
Even today, the game lives on through the TurboGrafx‑16 Mini, keeping the original’s charm alive for new retro fans.
Storyline
In Bonk's Revenge, the big‑headed caveman hero sets out on a daring mission to retrieve the missing half of the Moon. The lunar fragment was snatched by the nefarious King Drool III, who now threatens the night sky. Determined to restore balance, Bonk battles through prehistoric obstacles and quirky enemies, using his signature head‑butt attacks. Each level brings him closer to confronting the tyrant and reuniting the Moon’s two halves.
