Summary
Bonk's Adventure (sometimes just called Bonk) launched on the TurboGrafx‑16 in ’89, born from a collaboration between Red Company and Atlus while Hudson Soft provided supervision and the characters. The quirky platformer quickly migrated to the NES, Game Boy and Amiga, expanding its reach beyond the PC Engine. Its nostalgic charm earned a 3D remake for PlayStation 2 and GameCube in 2003, and the original made its way onto Nintendo’s Virtual Console (Wii ’06, Wii U ’16) and the TurboGrafx‑16 Mini in 2020. Sales topped 350 000 copies, and contemporary critics were kind: Electronic Gaming Monthly scored it between 7 and 8 out of 10, Entertainment Weekly called it the third‑best game of 1991, and EGM later ranked it 85th in its 100‑Best‑Games list.
Storyline
Bonk's Adventure follows the bald caveboy Bonk as he roams a whimsical prehistoric world. Armed with his indestructible forehead, he bonks anthropomorphic dinosaurs and other ancient foes. The quest begins when the evil King Drool, a massive green tyrannosaur, kidnaps Princess Za – a tiny pink plesiosaur‑type reptile. Determined to save her, Bonk battles through jungles, caverns and volcanic zones, using his head‑butt attacks to clear the way. In the end, the heroic caveboy confronts King Drool and aims to free Princess Za, restoring peace to the stone‑age realm.
