Summary

The TurboGrafx-16 version of Batman drops you into a top‑down maze that feels like a cross between Pac‑Man and Bomberman, with the Dark Knight darting through four film‑inspired districts. Each district is split into twelve bite‑size stages, and the objectives shift from snatching the volatile "Smilex" chemicals in Gotham to polishing priceless paintings at the Flugelheim museum and planting explosives at the Axis Chemicals plant.

Your only weapons are batarangs, which you can upgrade for longer reach and multiple throws, and a handful of power‑ups that sprinkle extra firepower across the labyrinth. Between the frantic runs, the game rewards you with colorful cutscenes that echo the movie’s mood, backed by a synth‑driven score from Nobuyuki Hara.

Visually, the sprite work is surprisingly detailed for a 1990 console title, and the animation feels fluid enough to keep the action lively. Critics at the time praised the graphics and the catchy music, but many noted that the repetitive maze formula wears thin after a while, especially as the difficulty spikes in later levels.

Overall, the game offers a nostalgic blend of arcade maze‑chasing and superhero flair—perfect for anyone who enjoys a challenge wrapped in a comic‑book aesthetic, even if the gameplay loop can feel a bit grindy after a few hours.
