Summary

Aldynes: The Mission Code for Rage Crisis is a horizontal scrolling shooter that debuted on Nintendo’s SuperGrafx, a console that never left Japan. The game stands out with its option‑based combat system, letting players attach different support modules to the ship for varied firepower, and it makes strong use of large‑scale background scaling and parallax scrolling to create depth.

Though confined to one platform at launch, the title resurfaced on the PlayStation Network in 2011, giving modern players a chance to experience its fast‑paced action. Critics praised the visual flair and tight controls, delivering scores around 80‑90% from publications such as Famitsu, Joystick and Player One, and it even placed in a PC Engine fan poll years after release. For anyone interested in a relatively obscure but polished segment of early ’90s shooter design, Aldynes offers a distinct blend of graphic ambition and gameplay nuance that still feels fresh.

Storyline

Aldynes: The Mission Code for Rage Crisis opens in 2020, when Earth is overwhelmed by an alien invasion as a massive mechanical planetoid appears and begins destroying cities without warning. All ground defenses crumble, forcing the United Nations to work with NASA.

The agencies develop the SWA‑402 Ortega, a powerful space fighter, but even that ship cannot stop the onslaught. During a desperate sortie, the Ortega pilot known only as Fox‑A is killed.

His girlfriend Hiroko learns that Fox‑A was part of the secret Pandora Project, which is building the next‑generation craft, the SDE‑201 Aldynes. When the invaders strike the air base where the prototype is almost finished, Hiroko commandeers an Aldynes unit and launches herself into battle, seeking revenge.
