Summary

Yoshi's Safari (known in Japan as Yoshi's Road Hunting) turns the SNES into a surprisingly immersive shooting gallery. Using the Super Scope, the game leverages Mode 7 to simulate a 3D world that feels like you’re actually perched on Yoshi’s back, aiming at Goombas, Koopas and Cheep‑Cheeps as they pop up on the horizon.

Each of the twelve levels is a timed sprint through branching corridors, where you blast question‑mark blocks for coins and collect power‑ups—mushrooms, flowers and stars—that boost health, firepower or grant brief invincibility. A power gauge forces you to pace your shots, because firing too fast leaves you vulnerable, and gathering sixty coins nets an extra life. The single‑player mode runs Yoshi automatically, while a second player can join with a regular controller to steer the dinosaur.

The climax of every stage is a boss battle against a Koopaling in a giant mech or a larger version of a familiar foe, culminating in a showdown with Bowser. After beating the game you receive a cheat code that cranks up the difficulty, and a built‑in leaderboard encourages you to chase higher scores on subsequent playthroughs.

Storyline

Yoshi's Safari (released in Japan as Yoshi's Road Hunting) is set in Jewelry Land, a realm that resembles the Mushroom Kingdom. Bowser and his Koopalings kidnap the kingdom’s rulers, King Fret and Prince Pine, and steal the twelve magic gems that safeguard the land, triggering an earthquake that splits it in two. One of the Koopalings, Iggy, constructs powerful mechs to aid Bowser’s invading forces. Princess Peach then sends Mario and Yoshi on a quest to defeat Bowser, recover the stolen gems, and free the captured rulers.
