Summary

World Heroes on the Super NES brings the four‑title ADK/SNK fighting saga to the 16‑bit crowd with a surprisingly deep control scheme. While the original arcade version relied on just three buttons—punch, kick and throw—the SNES port lets you map a full set of four basic attacks to any buttons you like, giving a feel that’s both retro and surprisingly flexible. Each fighter, from a shadowy ninja to a cybernetic supersoldier, also hides an ABC Special Move that fires when you press A, B and C together, a nod to the later World Heroes Perfect mechanics.

Beyond the standard one‑on‑one bouts, the game’s Death Match mode turns the arena into a hazard‑filled playground: spiked walls, landmines, burning ropes and slick floors can turn a simple combo into a lethal surprise. Though this chaotic mode vanished in later sequels, the SNES version keeps it alive, making every match feel like a high‑stakes showdown in a world of historic and futuristic fighters.

Storyline

World Heroes on the SNES follows a sci‑fi twist on classic fighting‑game lore. In the year 3091, an alien menace called Geegus has wiped out Earth’s defenses, leaving humanity on the brink of extinction.
Dr. Brown, a brilliant scientist who has just completed a functional time machine, decides to turn the tide by recruiting the greatest warriors from every era. He opens a tournament that pits historical legends—such as a samurai, a Roman gladiator, and other real‑world figures—against fictional fighters, all drawn together to face the extraterrestrial threat. The competition becomes a clash of centuries, with each combatant hoping to stop Geegus and save the future.
