Play World Cup USA 94 Online

Summary

World Cup USA '94 (often just called World Cup USA 94) was the third consecutive FIFA World Cup title that US Gold licensed, handing the development to Tiertex. The result is a top‑down, bird’s‑eye view recreation of the whole tournament, complete with the 24 qualified nations and a surprising eight non‑qualified powerhouses such as England, France and Denmark. Menus are icon‑driven and the official mascot pops up everywhere, while the gameplay leans toward easy passing and a surprisingly tough tackling system, encouraging a smooth, end‑to‑end style of play.

Players can tweak everything from half‑length—down to a single minute—to advanced options like manual goalkeeper control, reduced dribble control, ball‑trapping and even the 1994 no‑pass‑back rule. The Genesis version broke ground with a 16:9 widescreen mode and even displayed the PolyGram Video logo on stadium billboards, while the MS‑DOS and Sega CD releases featured digitized stadium photos. It also holds the distinction of being the final official World Cup game before EA took over the license in 1996, and the first to let you draft teams that didn’t actually qualify.

Critics were split: GamePro praised the SNES version’s responsive controls, sound effects and the sheer breadth of options, but slammed its graphics. Mean Machines Sega’s Steve Merrett felt the Genesis edition was outclassed by rivals like Sensible Soccer and FIFA, and Angus Swan dismissed the presentation for its tiny sprites, minimal animation and lack of atmosphere.
