Summary

The SNES edition of Wolfenstein 3D feels like a parallel universe of the original DOS hit. Its episodes and plot were reshaped and heavily censored, turning it into essentially a new game rather than a straight port. Those same alterations became the foundation for the later Atari Jaguar, Macintosh, 3DO and Apple IIgs versions, which all inherited the SNES’s stripped‑down narrative. When the Macintosh port arrived, developers merged the SNES‑specific storyline with the classic DOS plot, giving players a hybrid experience that bridged the two versions. The Japanese release pushed the censorship even further, rewriting the story yet again and making it the most altered variant of all.
