Summary

War 3010: The Revolution drops you into a desperate human rebellion after the alien Kyllen have enslaved Earth. On the distant world Joyec, the rebels surprise the invaders and hijack one of their battle fleets, giving you command of a ragtag armada of Fighters, Marauders and Destroyers. Each ship type moves differently and favors either long‑range or close‑quarters fire, so positioning on the grid‑based map becomes a constant puzzle. When you fire, the enemy always returns fire if it survives, turning every engagement into a risky trade‑off.

As the campaign unfolds you can scout planets for new technology, retrofit your vessels with upgraded weapons, and capture starbases that let you construct fresh ships. The upgrades stay only for the current mission, forcing you to rethink your fleet composition each turn. Passwords let you pick up where you left off, and the game even hides mini‑games of chess and checkers for a brief change of pace.

The SNES sequel to War 2410 sticks to the same strategic feel but was criticized for its static graphics, bland soundtrack, and steep learning curve. GamePro’s Scary Larry gave it a lukewarm 2 / 5 across graphics, sound, control and fun, noting that the complexity can overwhelm casual players.

Storyline

War 3010: The Revolution takes place in a grim future following humanity’s hard‑won victory over three rival factions in the conflict of 2410. The triumph, however, did not bring lasting peace. By the year 2610 the galaxy has fallen under the control of the Kyllen, an intergalactic menace that now dominates most of the known universe. Slavery has become an unavoidable reality for virtually all civilized species, and even humans are forced to struggle under the Kyllen’s oppressive rule.
