Summary

Uniracers feels like someone mashed Sonic’s speed with Tony Hawk’s stunt‑obsession, and the result is a wild, riderless unicycle race that rewards every flip and spin. On each track you’re not just trying to get from point A to B; landing tricks actually pumps up your velocity, while a wipe‑out strips away the momentum you’ve built. Some courses are pure stunt arenas, where the clock ticks down and the only goal is to rack up style points before the timer runs out.

The game packs nine tours, each with five distinct tracks—two race, two circuit and one stunt—totaling 45 courses to master. You can choose from 16 differently coloured unicycles, each with its own save slot and name, and challenge the AI through bronze, silver and gold ranks. The final showdown pits you against the bizarre Anti‑Uni, whose collisions can make the track vanish, flip your controls, or even desync the background.

Behind the scenes, DMA Design’s team actually rode real unicycles around the office to nail the physics, and the project carried the working title “1x1.” Their dedication sparked a legal battle with Pixar over the likeness to the 1987 short *Red’s Dream*, which ended with Nintendo halting production after the initial 300 k run of cartridges.

Critics praised the game’s breakneck pace and catchy soundtrack, earning it a solid 79 % on GameRankings and spots on several “best of SNES” lists—from Nintendo Power’s eighth‑best of 1994 to IGN’s 98th‑best SNES title in 2011. In Europe the same experience was sold under the name Unirally, but the thrills of loops, flips and split‑screen duels remain the same.
