Summary

The Sporting News Baseball lets you step onto a diamond that feels more like a nostalgic showcase than a strict simulation. While it lacks an official MLB team license, the game secured the MLBPA deal, so you can swing for the fences with icons like Ken Griffey Jr., Daryl Strawberry and John Smoltz. The stadium selection is tiny but quirky: two generic ballparks and the iconic field from the movie *Field of Dreams*, which adds a whimsical touch to every home run.

Modes are surprisingly varied for a cartridge title. You can jump straight into an exhibition, relive the All‑Star spectacle, test your power in the Home Run Derby, or chase a pennant in a season‑long race. Controls stay simple—button presses handle swings, bunts and pitch selection—making the gameplay feel familiar yet approachable for both newcomers and seasoned fans.

Overall, the game feels like a love letter to early‑90s baseball culture, blending real‑world stars with a dash of cinematic charm, all wrapped in a straightforward, pick‑up‑and‑play package.
