Summary
The Flintstones: The Treasure of Sierra Madrock feels like a board‑game meets platformer. You roll a dice on a map of themed worlds—Bedrock, icy Snowrock, fiery Magmarock—and the space you land on dictates a side‑scroll stage, a shop, or a quirky mini‑game.
The platform sections are classic left‑to‑right runs where Fred or Barney swing wood clubs at dinosaurs, Water Buffalo gang members and even a surprisingly hostile Dino. Brontoburgers replenish energy, while clams serve as currency; sometimes a clams bonus hides the sneaky Cavemouse trap.
Mini‑games ramp up the challenge: stadium races against cartoon foes use simulated speed and tilt mechanics, and roulette‑style challenges pop up between levels. Winning these grants items that unlock the next world, making the interludes more than filler.
A two‑player mode lets friends compete or cooperate, and a password system saves progress at the highest level reached. At under 12 MB, the game crams a lot of variety into a surprisingly tight cartridge.
Storyline
In The Flintstones: The Treasure of Sierra Madrock, the Water Buffalo tribe faces a leadership change. Their long‑time Great Poobah decides to step down and announces a contest: whoever discovers the legendary Treasure of Sierra Madrock will inherit his title.
Fred Flintstone and his best buddy Barney Rubble enter the race, racing against rival Buffalo members and even their own wives, Wilma and Betty, to claim the prize. The adventure sends them across prehistoric landscapes filled with puzzles and enemies as they chase the hidden riches before anyone else can lay claim.
