Summary

Tenchi Muyo! RPG (officially Tenchi Muyo! Game Hen) is a quirky, isometric turn‑based strategy title for the Super Famicom that never saw an official Western release. The game forces you down linear corridors where every step triggers a monster encounter, so you never get to wander freely – the focus is pure combat. You can field up to four of the twelve available characters, starting with Tenchi, Ryoko, Ayeka and Mihoshi and gradually unlocking the rest (including the alien cat‑robot Ryo‑Ohki and the eccentric scientist Washu) by exploring new zones. Each hero has distinct movement, skills and stats, and they level up not by experience points but by the sheer number of foes they slay, capping at eight tiers. Although the original ROM stayed Japanese‑only, a fan translation by Lina`chan, Nuku‑Nuku & Filia’s Translations surfaced in 2000, delivering a playable English version despite a few lingering bugs.

Storyline

Tenchi Muyou! Game Hen opens on a sunny morning at the Masaki residence, where Tenchi, Ryoko, Ayeka, Mihoshi and Ryo‑Ohki sit down to breakfast while Sasami serves the meal. When Washu is missing, Sasami and Ryo‑Ohki go to look for her, and the house suddenly flickers with a strange glow as ghastly monsters materialize in the hallway. After the group defeats the intruders, a mysterious girl named Shitsuki appears, claiming she is here to test each member’s strength. She takes Sasami hostage, offering to release her if anyone can injure Shitsuki in a fight, but when she loses she refuses to die and proposes a future rematch before teleporting herself and Sasami to her spaceship.

The adventure then branches beyond the mansion, sending Tenchi and his companions onto the outbound craft and eventually to other planets as they battle monsters and strange creatures to rescue Sasami from the magical little girl, Shitsuki, who is a unique addition to the Tenchi Muyo! universe.
