Summary

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time wears a few different names depending on where you bought it – the North American and Australian cartridges call it exactly that, while European boxes swapped “Ninja” for “Hero” to keep the numbering straight, and the Japanese Super Famicom kept the original unnumbered title. The SNES conversion drops some arcade animations and voice samples, swapping the arcade’s “Pizza Power” theme for an instrumental version of the cartoon’s music, but it makes up for it with a slick Mode 7 over‑the‑shoulder view on the Neon Night‑Riders stage.

The level roster got a makeover, too: Sewer Surfin’ and Neon Night‑Riders become bonus rounds that tally enemies and pizza slices before the boss, and a brand‑new Technodrome stage pits Shredder in a battle tank that you have to smash with thrown foot soldiers. New foes like the Rat King, Slash (replacing Cement Man), and the Bebop‑Rocksteady duo (who push Tokka and Rahzar into the Technodrome) keep the fight fresh, while Roadkill Rodneys and Mousers join the regular enemy pool.

Beyond the single‑player run, the game adds a two‑player versus arena and a time‑trial mode that lets you race three courses for bragging rights. Each turtle still carries its own speed and strength quirks, and the throw‑off‑screen move is now a deliberate technique you need to master for the Technodrome finale.

All of this sits on ten wildly varied stages – from prehistoric jungles to futuristic galaxies – and is wrapped in the same pizza‑powered, body‑slamming chaos that made the arcade classic a cult favorite.

Storyline

The opening cut‑scene of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV – Turtles in Time shows the brothers gathered on a Sunday evening, watching a live TV report by April O'Neil from Liberty Island. Suddenly a massive flying android—Super Krang—swoops in, tears the Statue of Liberty from its pedestal and sends panicked tourists into the harbor. Shredder hijacks the broadcast, laughing as the Turtles spring into action, chasing the Foot Clan through downtown New York, the city sewers and, in the SNES version, the Technodrome. He throws them into a time warp, forcing the heroes to battle his army across both past and future eras. After a chaotic quantum chase, the Turtles defeat Shredder, restore the Statue of Liberty and return home.
