Summary
Taz‑Mania on the SNES flips the classic platform formula. Instead of the side‑scrolling approach popular in Sega’s versions, the game puts you in a third‑person perspective, guiding Taz down a winding road as a countdown timer buzzes. The main thrust is gathering floating kiwi fruits while dodging potholes, spikes and moving critters that block your path.
As you progress the kiwis become faster, sometimes leaping ahead of Taz or even outrunning him, forcing quick reflexes. The frantic chase and obstacle dance earned the title a respectable 78% from Super Control, though combined SNES/GB scores settled around the mid‑fifties. For anyone who remembers the cartoon’s chaotic energy, this SNES take feels like an endless cartoon sprint that captures Taz’s wild spirit.
Storyline
In Taz‑Mania, the adventure kicks off when Hugh Tazmanian Devil gathers his three children—Taz, his sister Molly and his brother Jake—for a bedtime story. He recounts a legend about giant seabirds that once roamed Tasmania, laying massive eggs that could sustain a devil family for a year. The tale mentions a hidden Lost Valley somewhere on the island where these birds still nest. Intrigued by the idea of a colossal omelet, Taz decides to leave home and hunt for one of those giant eggs. The player guides Taz through a series of colorful stages, each bringing him closer to the mysterious Lost Valley and its legendary bird.
