Summary
Super Widget drops you into a bright, cartoon‑inspired platform adventure where the titular robot‑like hero roams a collection of whimsical worlds before reaching Earth. As you dash across each level you gather "W" coins—every 100 coins grants an extra life—while hunting for three-tiered power‑ups that let Widget morph into different creature forms, each armed with its own ranged attack. The more power‑ups of a single type you stack, the more potent the transformation becomes; getting hit drops you to the previous form, and a hit while in normal Widget costs a life.
Each stage culminates in a sizable boss that demands pattern memorization, careful evasion, and timely counter‑shots. After a victory, the game scores you based on completion time and combat finesse, then hands out Watcher Experience to bolster your progress. These layers of transformation strategy and grading give Super Widget a distinctive, replay‑friendly flair that sets it apart from other SNES platformers.
Storyline
In Super Widget, Earth faces an onslaught of villains bent on destroying the environment for their own selfish schemes. Far beyond our solar system, the mysterious World Watchers—shapeshifting aliens from the Horsehead Nebula—assign planetary guardians to defend each world. The apprentice guardian, a purple alien named Widget, receives his first assignment: protect Planet Earth. He isn’t alone; his hyper‑intelligent sidekick, Mega Brain, offers strategic support and gadgetry throughout the quest. Together they battle the eco‑threats, restoring balance and proving that even an apprentice can become a true protector of the planet.
