Summary
Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi pulls the classic 16‑bit action onto the SNES with a generous roster of characters. I can pick Luke, Han, Chewie, Princess Leia or the ever‑cheerful Wicket, and several stages even let me swap heroes mid‑run. The game keeps the fast‑paced platforming of its predecessors while adding Mode 7 vehicle sequences, like the speeder bike dash on Endor and a frantic Millennium Falcon chase.
Leia gets the most flair: she starts as the disguised bounty hunter Boushh, then battles with a broken chain on Jabba’s sail barge, and finally fires a blaster as a Rebel commander on Endor. Luke’s Force powers are trimmed to five and recharge quickly, but his lightsaber remains lethal. Boss fights range from the slime‑crawling Rancor to the towering Emperor, giving each encounter a distinct feel.
Storyline
Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (often just called Super Star Wars III) sticks close to the movie’s storyline but adds its own twists. The game follows the basic arc of the film, taking players from the rescue of Han Solo on the forest moon to the final showdown on the second Death Star. One notable addition is a unique level where Luke Skywalker must battle his way through the Death Star’s interior before confronting the Emperor. These extra scenes give the SNES side‑scroller extra depth while keeping the core narrative recognizable.
