Summary

Super Smash TV brought the frantic twin‑stick action of the 1990 arcade hit to the SNES with a clever control twist: the four face buttons replace the missing second stick, letting you aim in any of eight directions while dashing with the D‑pad. This layout feels surprisingly natural, so the chaotic waves of enemies slide smoothly across the screen. Critics adored the adaptation—Electronic Gaming Monthly praised it with scores ranging from 8 to 10, Mean Machines gave a solid 92%, and Total placed it 51st in its Top 100 SNES list. The game’s sleek arcade roots shine through, making the home version a must‑play for anyone craving pure, button‑mashing shoot‑’em‑up intensity.

Storyline

Super Smash TV drops you into a dystopian TV game show set in the near‑future year 1999. One or two players blast waves of attackers while grabbing cash, VCRs, toasters and other prizes.

After clearing an arena you pick an exit; one door leads to a boss fight, the sadistic host who also narrates the carnage with lines like “Total carnage! I love it!” and “Big money! Big prizes! I love it!” The host even appears as the final boss.

The game is cooperative, but at the end of each level the player with the most loot gets an extra reward. A post‑release bonus lets you collect hidden keys to unlock the secret Pleasure Dome. Its gritty aesthetic draws heavily from 1987 films RoboCop and The Running Man.
