Summary
Super Scope 6 arrived as the plug‑in pack that turned the Super NES into a light‑gun arcade. When the cartridge is plugged in, the console shows a red‑italic title screen and forces you to shoot the picture to even start, followed by the familiar bull’s‑eye calibration so the Scope knows where you’re aiming.
The six mini‑games are divided into two sections. Blastris offers three puzzle shooters—Blastris A, a Tetris‑style block‑clearing bout; Blastris B, a Columns‑like color‑match challenge; and Mole Patrol, a whack‑a‑mole garden defense with timing bonuses. LazerBlazer provides three combat skirmishes—Intercept, Engage and Confront—where you dodge missiles, manage fuel and blast swarms, the latter even allowing endless bullets.
Critics were split: Famitsu gave it a solid showing and even topped its June 1993 sales chart in Japan, but scores from Western magazines ranged from mediocre to just okay.
Storyline
In Super Scope 6, a helpful lady appears on the right‑hand communication screen to guide the player through each stage. Throughout the one‑player levels—and in Level 2 of the two‑player mode—Mario pilots a plane while Lemmy Koopa rockets after him. Hitting Lemmy restores a miss in solo play or grants bonus points in co‑op, whereas striking Mario counts as a miss or nullifies any points, depending on the mode. Occasionally a mole rockets across the sky, a nod to LazerBlazer’s Intercept mode, and shooting the mole rewards extra points. These quirky target interactions keep the light‑gun action fresh and add a playful twist to the classic SNES shooting experience.
