Summary

Super Puyo Puyo, the Super Famicom edition of the original 1991 puzzle hit, was shipped by Banpresto on December 10, 1993. The game uses the cute, eye‑flashing puyo creatures that fall in pairs, letting you slide and rotate them until they lock onto other puyos or the bottom of the playfield. A win comes from stuffing enough garbage blocks into the opponent’s grid, a mechanic that feels just as frantic as the arcade version. Despite the SNES’s smaller screen forcing a slimmer playfield and moving the opponent’s portrait onto the field, the port preserves the original’s voice acting and all the classic chaining, offsetting, and combo depth. It packs four distinct modes – a single‑player story, head‑to‑head doubles, an endless high‑score drill, and a Mission challenge with 52 preset puzzles – giving both casual and competitive players plenty to chew on.

Storyline

In Super Puyo Puyo’s Scenario mode, you play as Arle Nadja, the 16‑year‑old spellcaster from the Madou Monogatari series. She has mastered the Owanimo spell, which turns four or more matching creatures into pure energy.

To use it against the ultimate threat, she must first face twelve quirky opponents, including the lovesick Rulue. The final showdown pits her against the Dark Prince, who seeks world domination. Defeating him restores peace and lets Arle return home.
