Storyline

Super Metroid follows bounty hunter Samus Aran after the events on SR388, where she wiped out the Metroid herd and rescued a lone hatchling she nicknamed “Baby.” She transports the larva to the Ceres Space Colony for research, but moments after her departure a distress signal forces her back. The Space Science Academy is a massacre scene; the scientists are dead and the containment unit vanished. Ridley appears, snatches the capsule holding the Metroid, and triggers a self‑destruct sequence that forces Samus to flee the exploding station.

Escaping Ceres, Samus chases Ridley to the pirate‑infested planet Zebes. After battling three regional bosses she reaches Ridley’s lair, defeats him, and discovers the capsule shattered and the larva missing. She then pushes deeper into the base, enters Tourian, and confronts a massive, fully grown Metroid that recognizes her as its “mother” and spares her life.

In the final showdown Mother Brain, the biomechanical ruler of Zebes, overwhelms Samus until the rescued Metroid intervenes, granting her the Hyper Beam. Using the new weapon Samus destroys Mother Brain and escapes as Zebes self‑destructs.
