Summary

Super International Cricket feels like a love letter to early‑90s sports games, building on the NES original with noticeably sharper graphics and a smoother feel that still holds up against today’s cricket titles. The trade‑off is the familiar one‑track sound loop and a single stadium, and, like its predecessor, the game never secured official team or player licences, so the rosters are a bit of a creative workaround. Eight national sides—Sri Lanka, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, India, Pakistan and the West Indies—take the field across three difficulty settings, from casual to hard. Both "World Series" and "Test match" modes can stretch over five virtual days, often ending in a draw, and the Australian method of scoring adds a quirky twist. Some of the on‑screen names are nods to the developers (M. Parker, G. Anders, A. Milgrom), each with a speed rating that influences run‑gathering, while bowlers choose from four delivery types, each with its own pace. The game was a regional exclusive, landing only in Australia and Europe, and even bundled with a Super NES console in Australia. Melbourne House (operating as Beam Software) followed it up with Cricket 96 and Cricket 97, but the series never evolved into the incremental franchise model seen in other sports games.
