Summary
Super Double Dragon brings back Billy and Jimmy Lee for a side‑scrolling beat‑‘em‑up that adds a guard button, arm‑grab moves, and a Dragon Power gauge, letting each brother showcase distinct hairstyles, outfits, and fighting abilities. The game also introduces Marian, a kung fu‑trained policewoman who disappears while infiltrating the Black Shadow Warriors, prompting a solo or brotherly rescue mission. Players battle through seven stages—casino, airport, dojo, moving truck, city slum, forest, and the boss hideout—facing a roster of enemies such as Williams, Roper, and Baker, and confront bosses like Steve, Jackson, the Chin brothers, McGuire, Carlem, and the final Duke. The SNES entry was later given a slightly enhanced Japanese rerelease and a 2023 modern‑platform port, preserving its expanded move set and character distinctions for new audiences.
Storyline
In Super Double Dragon, Billy and Jimmy Lee are drawn into a mystery when several local martial artists vanish. The brothers set out to dismantle the Shadow Warriors, a criminal syndicate behind the disappearances. Their investigation leads to a showdown with the gang’s leader, Duke, who is ultimately revealed to be a childhood friend of the Lee brothers. Assisting them is Marian, a policewoman borrowed from the Double Dragon comic and animated series. The narrative unfolds through cut‑scenes placed before boss fights and between stages, and it wraps up with a full ending sequence that ties the brothers’ quest together.
