Summary

Super Buster Bros., known overseas as Super Pang, translates the classic bubble‑popping arcade action to the SNES with a single‑player twist. You control either Buster or Kutch, firing a vertical cable that splits each bubble into two smaller ones—much like the physics of Asteroids—until the tiniest bubbles simply vanish. The game offers two distinct play styles.

In Panic mode a relentless rain of bubbles fills the screen while a rainbow bar at the bottom slowly fills with each pop. Reach level 99, fill the bar and clear the remaining bubbles to trigger a unique ending. A rare clock‑star bubble adds a strategic layer: popping it on the clock freezes all bubbles for nine seconds, while popping it on the star clears the screen and boosts the bar.

Arcade mode presents set stages that mimic locations around the world, complete with ladders, breakable glass, invisible walls and even icy floors. Four difficulty settings reshuffle layouts, bubble speed and continue limits, keeping the challenge fresh. Power‑ups appear from specific bubbles or hidden spots, granting double‑cable shots, ceiling‑clinging cables, or temporary freezes, though you can only equip one at a time.

Critics were mixed; Electronic Gaming Monthly gave it scores ranging from 4/10 to 8/10, while Game Machine listed it among Japan’s top arcade units in early 1991. In 1995 Total! placed Super Buster Bros. 83rd on its Top 100 SNES list, noting its unusual bubble‑blasting premise.
