Summary
Super Bomberman 3 hit the SNES in 1995, but only landed in Japan and the PAL territories after Hudson Soft shut its North‑American branch. The third entry returns to the classic Bomber formula, stripping away many of the experimental bits from '94 and Super Bomberman 2. Graphically it leans toward the simplified look of the PC‑Engine Bomber titles, while the soundtrack is a remix of older Bomberman themes.
Multiplayer is its star – Battle Mode now supports up to five players, each avatar representing a different country, and even Pretty Bomber shows up as France, marking her first non‑enemy cameo. Only two staff members carried over from the ‘94 team, so the development feels fresh yet familiar.
Famitsu gave it 28/40 and it shipped over 612,000 copies in Japan, earning a spot as Nintendo Acción’s 22nd‑best game in 1997. The title resurfaced in 2026 inside the Super Bomberman Collection, finally giving modern players a chance to experience its five‑player chaos.
Storyline
Super Bomberman 3 returns to the classic formula while expanding the multiplayer roster with new characters that each represent a country, including Pretty Bomber as France – her first non‑enemy role. The story mode follows White Bomber and Black Bomber as they chase the resurrected Five Dastardly Bombers across element‑themed stars, trying to stop the chaos they cause under the direction of their creator, Bagular. Bagular’s scheme begins in a junkyard UFO where he extracts the five defeated foes from their graves and works to revive them. The duo eventually confronts and defeats Bagular, putting an end to the bombers’ rampage. Visually, the game adopts a simplified art style reminiscent of the PC Engine Bomberman titles, and most tracks are remixed versions of classic Bomberman music.
