Summary

Super Batter Up (known in Japan as Super Famista) lets you step onto a virtual diamond with the real‑life rosters of the 1991 season, thanks to its MLBPA license. Because the game lacks an MLB team license, each squad is identified only by its city, and you’ll find familiar faces like Cal Ripken, Dave Winfield and Kirby Puckett wearing simple red‑and‑white uniforms. You can choose from three stadium flavors—a dome with artificial turf and a 330‑ft foul line, a modern venue with slightly shorter dimensions, or a traditional grass field—each modeled after iconic ballparks such as the Tokyo Dome, Wrigley Field and Busch Stadium.

Both solo and head‑to‑head play are supported, with a league mode that records every stat you generate. Pitching depth is limited to five arms per team, and you can’t swap players, but you can substitute a hitter or runner at the plate. All the numbers appear in the Namco Sports newspaper, which you can zoom in on for tiny details, and passwords let you pick up where you left off.

The game’s reception was mixed: it earned a 56 % aggregate on GameRankings, with scores hovering around the mid‑range, and AllGame’s Brett Alan Weiss called it an "average baseball game" despite praising its solid controls. Still, its quirky blend of authentic player names, varied stadiums and a simple yet functional stats system gives it a nostalgic charm for anyone who grew up watching baseball in the early ’90s.
