Summary

Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety drops you into a chaotic two‑player beat ’em up where the unlikely duo of Spider‑Man and Venom team up against the symbiote menace Carnage. The game leans on its colorful, detailed SNES graphics—often praised as a step up from the Genesis counterpart—while the computer‑rendered backdrops give the streets a surprisingly gritty feel. Along the way you’ll run into cameo helpers like Captain America, Ghost Rider, Hawkeye and Daredevil, each popping in for a brief assist before the action roars back to the endless waves of heavily armed thugs and Venom’s own symbiote children. Critics were split: an aggregate 61.5% score and a 2/5 rating from Next Generation highlighted the game’s visual flair but called out its repetitive stages, thin originality and over‑reliance on cutscenes. The title resurfaced in 2026 as part of the Marvel MaXimum Collection, giving a new generation a chance to experience the nostalgic, if uneven, chaos of Separation Anxiety.

Storyline

Spider‑Man & Venom – Separation Anxiety (often just called Separation Anxiety) borrows its name from the comic series but actually tracks the events of Venom’s first limited series, Lethal Protector. The game opens with Spider‑Man appearing alongside Venom, then the duo confronts a digger in San Francisco and discovers an underground city hidden beneath the streets. They soon learn that the Life Foundation has violently ripped Venom from his living costume, spawning five new alien symbiotes, and they must battle the merciless Jury while trying to rescue the five symbiote seeds.
Allies such as Ghost Rider and Daredevil lend a hand as Venom and Spider‑Man escape the Life Foundation’s clutches and face the five offspring at the Foundation’s headquarters, aiming to put an end to the chaos caused by the split symbiotes.
