Summary
Speedy Gonzales: Los Gatos Bandidos feels like a mouse‑sized homage to Sonic the Hedgehog. You sprint across open fields, up gentle slopes and into winding tunnels, launching off spring‑like mousetraps that hurl Speedy into the air. A short‑range kick handles most enemies, while occasional collectible items can be saved for later use. The levels are peppered with bottomless pits, spikes and even cages that kill you instantly, and familiar foes such as Sylvester and the robotic Robocat pop up throughout. A notorious button in Stage 6‑1 once froze emulators until the higan team tracked down the faulty code handling it. Critics were split: they praised the vibrant cartoon style and catchy music, but panned the choppy animation, Sonic‑ripped level design and sluggish momentum. Years later, a bootleg discovered in ’96 even swapped Speedy out for Sonic, turning the oddball SNES title into an internet curiosity.
Storyline
In a quiet Mexican village, a fiesta is underway when a gang of cat bandits, Los Gatos Bandidos, swoops in and kidnaps the mice. Only the slow‑moving Slowpoke evades capture and radios for help. He summons his cousin, the fastest mouse in Mexico—Speedy Gonzales.
In Speedy Gonzales: Los Gatos Bandidos, the hero follows the cat trail through colorful levels, freeing as many captured mice as he can. He darts after cheese, dodges natural hazards, and outsmarts the feline thieves at every turn.
