Summary

Spanky's Quest puts you in the shoes of Spanky, a monkey armed with a quirky magic bubble. Throwing a tiny purple sphere, you can bounce it on Spanky's head; each bounce inflates the bubble and shifts its color, eventually bursting into sports balls like baseballs or basketballs that wipe out the fruit‑turned enemies. The game is divided into five worlds, each packing ten tightly designed rooms that must be cleared before confronting a themed boss, with the witch Morticia looming at the end. On the SNES, a door unlocks once enough keys are collected, whereas the handheld version simply requires erasing every foe, giving each platform a distinct flavor. The upbeat jazz soundtrack by Kiyohiro Sada adds a cheerful bounce, and the title resurfaced on Nintendo’s Classics service in 2021, bringing the quirky monkey adventure to a new generation.

Storyline

In Spanky's Quest, the cheerful hero Spanky sets out for a picnic in the woods, only to be captured by the wicked witch Morticia and locked inside her towering lair. To escape, Spanky must battle Morticia herself and navigate the tower’s traps.
Along the way he confronts her fruit‑themed minions—an apple, a pineapple, a watermelon, a peach and a bunch of grapes—each of which animates the fruit in Spanky's knapsack, giving them arms and legs to attack him. Defeating these animated snacks clears a path toward the witch’s throne. Once Morticia is vanquished, Spanky can finally break free and return to his picnic.
