Summary
Playing Star Trek: The Next Generation – often called the SNES “Future’s Past” version – feels like stepping onto the Enterprise bridge for real. The interface lets me hop between the Conn, communications, engineering and the main computer, each packed with puzzles that demand a bit of Starfleet logic. I can assemble an away team, check each member’s tactical, technical and health stats, then send them down to alien worlds where phasers, tricorders and medical kits become my tools for solving riddles. When Romulan ships fire, the red‑alert screen flips to a tactical grid where I steer the Enterprise, fire phasers and torpedoes, and juggle system damage that can cripple navigation or transport. Critics were split – some praised the authentic sound effects and deep lore, while others called the pacing sluggish – but for any Trekkie who loves a methodical, detail‑rich adventure, it’s a solid, if old‑school, experience.
Storyline
Shin Star Trek - The Next Generation - Ooinaru Isan IFD no Nazo no Oe (often shortened to Shin Star Trek: The Next Generation) is set in the familiar Star Trek universe, covering both Federation space and the Romulan Neutral Zone. The plot revolves around the mysterious IFD (Integrated Field Derandomizer), an artifact capable of reshaping matter and energy, whose reappearance threatens the galaxy.
The USS Enterprise‑D is orbiting a red giant near the Neutral Zone when it receives a distress call from Vulcan geologist Dr. T'Laris, whose dig site on Codis Mu VI has been attacked by Romulans. The crew investigates the missing Romulan vessel, learns about the IFD, and encounters hostile mollusk‑like Chodak who constantly harass the ship while it gathers clues.
Ancient lore reveals that the extinct Senatorious once owned the IFD and sent it ten thousand years forward to prevent its abuse. A crippled Eunacian ship later informs Captain Picard of the IFD Trials—three deadly tests that, if failed, could destroy the Federation and enslave countless worlds.
