Summary

Sakurai Shouichi no Jankiryuu Mahjong Hisshouhou, often shortened to Jankiryuu Mahjong, feels like a hidden gem tucked away in the mid‑90s SNES library. The game blends a quirky tutorial vibe with the classic tile‑matching mechanics of Mahjong, inviting players to learn the nuances of the game through a series of oddly charming challenges. Though it never left Japan, its development by the modest studio J‑Force and publication through Sammy Studios give it a distinct pedigree that collectors love to chase. The title’s off‑beat presentation and its status as a “miscellaneous” entry make it a fascinating footnote in the era’s crowded console market, and its rarity only adds to the allure for retro enthusiasts today.
